Access to safe water is essential for healthy communities. In rural Madagascar, many villages depend on unsafe and unreliable water sources, making daily life more difficult and increasing health risks.
Through this project, Melbo Foundation worked together with local communities to improve access to clean and sustainable water.
Sustainable water solutions for rural villages
Seven solar-powered water systems were constructed in the Menabe and Melaky districts.
Each installation includes water storage and solar-powered pumping equipment, providing communities with a reliable source of clean water for daily use.
Water that improves daily life
The project benefits approximately 6,000 inhabitants in the villages of Kirindy, Tanandava, Andadoany, and Bekopaka, ensuring safer drinking water and improving daily living conditions.
The water supplies also support household activities and community initiatives, including small-scale gardening.
Supporting local communities
Thanks to the support of the Embassy of Japan and our donors, these water systems were successfully completed and are now operated by the local communities.
Local involvement and cooperation are essential to ensure the long-term impact of these projects.
Beyond water: supporting food security
In several villages, the availability of water also created opportunities for small-scale gardening and local food production, helping communities make better use of this vital resource.
