Educational trip:

HELP PEOPLE TO PROTECT THE NATURE OF MADAGASCAR

In November 2020, Students from various universities in Madagascar traveled in groups to the national parks and their surroundings. Through these practical experiences, students received ‘live’ information about nature and how they can protect it. During village councils they discussed with the villagers the possibilities to improve the livelihoods of the local communities without destroying the forest.

This program was made possible thanks to the generous support of the Dutch Embassy in Tanzania. We are very grateful for their contribution.

What was the expected outcome of this project?”

  • Students gain awareness of Madagascar’s unique nature, learning to appreciate and protect their environment and act as ambassadors for nature in their own countries.
  • Public awareness is raised through student-made video reports and presentations at schools and universities.
  • Local communities are supported with sustainable solutions, including clean water storage, honey production, pig and chicken farming, aquaculture, agricultural tools, and LED lights.
  • The project provides work and income for local communities, including guides, drivers, boatmen, hotels, and restaurants, especially during the COVID period.
